Forever in pursuit of the best fruit sources, our 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is blend of two vineyards, Carpingano and Frog Tree, just east of the town of Napa. Just as with previous our Cabernet vintages, we stay committed to the long and gentle growing season provided by the Coombsville area of the Napa Valley. What we like best about Coombsville is that while the wines have wonderful cellaring potential with great depth and elegant structure, the plush, ripe fruit yields wines that are very approachable young. While laying wine down is never a bad thing, most folks we run into drink their wines fairly young. With Coombsville fruit, you get the best of both worlds.
Carpingano is a tiny 10 acre vineyard just east of Napa. We began with Capingano in 2003 harvesting the 10 best rows and share the vineyard with only one other producer. We have been working with the Frog Tree Vineyard since 2001 and are very pleased with the power and structure of the fruit for a relatively young vineyard. Small size and unlimited access allows Rolando and his team to closely manage both of these the vineyards and their subsequent yields for optimal ripeness and quality.
As with all of our wines, we have stayed committed to using a combination of French and American oak, the majority of it new oak. This combination provides a solid tannic structure and backbone for aging, but also different layers of aromas and flavors.
