2021 Longfellow Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville
$125
Vintage Notes
Warmer than most Oakville locations, the vineyard shows classic and serious Oakville valley floor characteristics, however its location on the Rutherford border adds some enigmatic dustiness and earth to the fruit. Our block is comprised of 13 rows planted east-west so that the fruit ripens evenly throughout the balance of the day.
The 2021 vintage featured and early bud break and long hang time thanks to the mild weather across the summer. The weather combined with low yields made 2021 a near perfect growing season. This resulted in concentrated fruit and a plush, but polished wine with the structure and finesse to age for decades.
A long cold soak was utilized to optimize the extraction and the wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels from two different coopers for just under 24 months. However in 2019, we decided to age the entire lot in a tight grained barrel from a single cooper to better develop the wine’s robust yet elegant tannic structure.
Tasting Notes
“Wonderfully aromatic on the nose, this wine invites you in and reminds you why Oakville is so interesting. Bing cherry and other dark fruits with layers of black tea and other savory baking spices. A lively streak of minerality races down the palette and provides an elegant structure for the beautifully ripe fruit. A great vintage that should age for decades.”
