2022 Longfellow Chardonnay
Haynes Vineyard

$60

Vintage Notes: Planted in 1966 by Duncan and Pat Haynes, the vineyard has been growing Chardonnay for over 50 years and only a few select wineries have had access to the Haynes fruit. We harvested Chardonnay from two unique vineyard blocks – the Old Wente clone in a cooler pocket of the original vineyard planting and the Clone 4 block in a slightly sunnier and warmer section of the vineyard. The Wente clone provides polish and perfume while the Clone 4 adds great structure and acidity that is enigmatic of our Chardonnay style.

Another beautiful growing season in 2014 produced an easy harvest with great yields and optimal ripeness. Our goal with our Chardonnay program is to let the beauty and purity of the fruit shine. To that end, we only used a small amount (20%) of new French Oak in aging the wine for almost 11 months. While limited in the amount of new oak, the wine was fermented in the barrel in order to add depth and richness. Inspired by the great white Burgundies of France - aromatic, dense, and complex with the requisite minerality and acidity.

Tasting Notes: “Bright and fresh aromas of baked apple and lemon meringue give way to notes of tropical fruits and citrus peel. Richly textured notes of orange blossom and nectarine all framed by lip smacking minerality and acidity. A Chardonnay worthy of a decade or more in the cellar.”
