Vintage Notes: McGah Vineyards encompasses 65 acres in Rutherford just off the Silverado Trail. The area is hallowed ground for Cabernet Sauvignon, however this fruit comes the one acre Heritage Block with special soil preparation, site-specific rootstock (St.George), and fantastic clones of Grenache (515, Tablas D) and Mourvédre. The rows sit on a slightly sloping benchland, so the soil is well drained with classic Rutherford red, dusty soil.

A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvédre, the 2022 Cuvée Hermitage pays tribute to the Grenache dominated blends on the Southern Rhone. The fruit was hand harvested at dawn to retain the freshness and integrity of the clusters. Fermented in an open top stainless steel tank and we took a significant saignee for concentration.  Punch downs continued for two weeks during fermentation and the wine was pressed when dry. The wine was aged for 15 months in once used French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: “A wine with breath and detail, sublime ruby color gives way to savory garrigue aromas tinged with green olive and fig tapenade. A blast of ripe plum and red cherry fruit coats the palette and yields to multilayered accents of smoked meat, licorice, and an enigmatic Rutherford dustiness. Fresh and lively enough to enjoy young, however its savory complexity and elegant structure should reward aging over the next decade.”
