2022 Sauvignon Blanc
Whisky River Ranch
$45
Vintage Notes: Harvested from the Whiskey River Ranch Vineyard in Pope Valley just on the back side of Howell Mountain from St. Helena. The ranch’s vineyards sit at a mild elevation at 715 feet allowing for long and warm sunny afternoons and cool evenings perfect for maintaining the proper acidity for Sauvignon Blanc.
Early rains in 2022 broke the spell of a three year drought and led to and early bud break. We harvested this Sauvignon Blanc in late August just ahead of the heat spikes that created challenges across the Napa Valley. The results were abundant yields and impressive intensity and vibrancy in the fruit.
Whole clusters were pressed and fermented, and the wine was allowed to remain on the lees throughout the aging process and stirred frequently. Total aging was 10 months in 80-gallon stainless steel barrels in order to maintain aromatic purity and the wines natural acidity. We also used one new French oak barrel to provide additional richness and mouthfeel.
Tasting Notes: “Bright acidity and crisp minerality highlight this wine and provide a complex nose of lemon cream, guava, and musqué clone aromas. Ripe tropical citrus flavors explode on the palette while a beam of salinity lingers seconds after the first sip. A crisp and clean finish that is the hallmark of great Sauvignon Blancs.”
